Say hello to Johannes: not just any Citroën 2CV, but a true Frisian legend on wheels. Johannes is the 2CV that played its part during the harsh Eleven Cities Tours of earlier days — as a snowplough support car. While skaters crossed the ice, Johannes worked through wind and weather to help keep the route passable.
With his characteristic 2CV sound, lively suspension and unmistakable charm, he spent years standing by along the ice. He saw skating heroes flash past, shivering spectators and plenty of traditional food and drink stalls. Johannes even claims he once received a wink from a certain W.A. van Buren near the Bonkevaart. Was that really our King? Johannes prefers to leave that open. And who are we to argue?
Because true Frisians do not give in to the cold, Johannes kept close to the ice even after his snowplough days. When new Eleven Cities Tours failed to arrive, he helped out at the local skating club in Zurich, complete with a striking outfit that made him look as if he was born for the job.
Today Johannes is still in great shape. His engine hums like it always did, his charm is timeless and every drive feels like a chapter from a living piece of Frisian history. Whether it is a sunny summer day or a crisp autumn drive, Johannes always brings a touch of Frisian determination and plenty of character.
