How Toer Eend Friesland came to be

We're Boukje and Arjen, classic-car fans for years. A Mk1 Golf, a VW Beetle, that sort of thing. But a 2CV? We didn't have one yet.

Until we bought our house in Oudehaske. The contents included a large collection of 2CV parts and a couple of 2CVs under restoration. We took it all on, "just to get started". We were going to keep only one. That didn't quite work out.

Yfke was the first to become fully ours. Picked up on the other side of the country, a day in the rain, coffee from a thermos. Not long after, a bright green one joined, the type Sjaakie from the Dutch cult film "Flodder" drove. And then Johannes. Before you know it you have three 2CVs on the drive and you think: we have to share this.

That's how Toer Eend Friesland came to be. Not from behind a desk, but in between wrenches, with oil under our nails and a big smile.

Roof open, engine humming at its own pace. No GPS pushing you, no traffic-jam stress, no buzzing notifications. Just you, the road and the Frisian landscape rolling past.

From Oudehaske the quiet back roads are right there. Past lakes, through villages where you'll meet no other tourists, over little dikes with views. Picnic basket in the back, music soft, all the time in the world.

And one detail we secretly love most: we have an original Eleven Cities Tour 2CV in the stable. A true Frisian hero. Where better to discover Friesland than in a car that drove itself into local history?
